It is with much sorrow and sadness that we in Yorkshire and further a field hear of the death of one of our Lady stalwarts and workers of the hobby of keeping and exhibiting Budgerigars Mary Dexter.
She was a Honorary Life Member of the Y.B.S. and all the time I have been in the Budgerigar hobby she supported Arthur her late husband, and encouraged Sue and Peter her daughter and son in law to keep the flag flying for our hobby, in Mary's younger days she worked tirelessly for the Y.B.S. on the catering stand and tom bola stalls etc at most shows and meetings, and was never away from Arthur's her husbands side, we who knew her well would say she lived and breathed for the budgerigar hobby, and without such people we would not have the Society we have today, I am sure we at the Yorkshire Budgerigar Society would like to say a big thank you, and send our condolences to her family, and especially to Sue Pete and Laura.
Ray Brown, Chairman of the Yorkshire Budgerigar Society.

It is with Great Sadness that I am writing this letter to honour a much Respected Lady of Budgies

The Late Mary Dexter who recently passed away.

Mary was a main player many years ago when Roy and Myself joined Castleford Budgerigar Club. Always there with a smile and a cuppa. Always remembering other peoples winners and encouraging members to keep on going . In the old days Mary would remember Arthur  putting his birds on a train to go to shows and I bet there wasn’t many shows in the country that she didn’t attend. It was there Life as she often stated and I know they loved every minute of it.

She was of course the widow of the Late Arthur Dexter a renowned Member of Castle ford  and a very Respected judge.

More people today will remember Mary as the Mother of Sue Smith and mother-in-law to Peter , not forgetting  Laura who was the apple of her Grandmothers eye.

Castleford Members offer their most sincere sympathy to the family, and our support as friends at this very sad time.
